-Feature article
I plan my feature article to have similar codes and conventions as this print does. I like the abstract pose placed with negative space allowing the text to be dominant as well.

Naming The Magazine
I used www.dafont.com to research font types for the title of the magazine. These are the three that I thought would suit best. They have similar codes and conventions that all magazine titles have, they are bold and eye catching.
Moodboard
This moodboard is a selection of images, album artwork, print products, fonts and colour palettes that I aim to use within my magazine.Planning
I have now outlined my initial ideas for my project and researched specifically for my target audience. I will now begin to plan how I will produce my print product.
Music Questionnaire
I created a questionnaire that was sent out to 17 students in my class. The results would show the most popular choice of genre within magazines and music. My Media class is the relevant target audience that I have chosen.

Representations For My Target Audience
Artists such like Florence Welch (Florence And The Machine) have an eccentric fashion style which show their personally within their music.
This image in particular shows that she likes to experiment and stand out from the mass crowd of musicians in the world. This image doesn't have a direct address, it is playful and different which represents this artist in the simplest way.
I chose this image as I felt I could use techniques like this in my photography for my main artist. The mise en scene appeals to me as there is no bright over the top background and costume, it shows her class.

Current Top 40 Singles Chart
Today I have researched Radio 1's download chart. This top 40 chart shows the ranking of what music the public are downloading/buying. I have catagorized this chart into genres so I have an over view of what genre is most popular at this moment in time.
Week commencing November 22nd 2010:
Pop - 23
Indie/Rock - 6
R&B - 4
Dance - 6
These figures are now useful to my planning and research as I know Pop and Indie are the most downloaded genres of song at this current time.

Unique Selling Point
The genre that I am focusing on relates in ways to fashion magazines like Vogue does. The vintage music magazine that I am creating is cultural and artistic. My target audience will range from males and females with an age range of 16-30. This genre is fresh to music magazines as most well known music prints focus on rock/metal/pop. Retro Indie is well known and well liked at the moment. Music and indie fashion trends all in one print product.

Music Magazine Circulations
Music Magazine circulation figures for January-June 2009.
The figures show comparisons to the pervious year of 2008. The main genre of magazines shown are rock/indie/metal. This genre is relevant to what I will produce as I am approaching Indie musicians.
The main sex gender of these music prints is male. There is a gap in the market for a fashion inspired indie print which would appeal to the female population along side males.

Preliminary Task
As I have now been trained in Photoshop and InDesign this is my first attempt at creating a front cover. We had to take our own imagery for the cover of the college magazine and create our own themes and genres. As Rememberance Day has just passed I thought this was a relative theme, which links well with the Catholic College morals.
I edited the background image on Photoshop first to create a bright attractive front page. I kept the font and text simple and brief as I didn't want to create a common tacky college magazine. The chic simplistic style I have created is what I will aim for in my final designs for my music magazine.

Research And Planning: Conventions Of A Music Magazine
Front Cover
This particular front cover appeals to me as I think the colour pallet used links well with the theme that I am approaching. I like the variety of colours used in the logo and the orange/brown compliments the artist's clothing. The composition of this front cover flows, it presents what the magazine is about; indie music, art and culture.
Contents
I have researched contents pages from a variety of music magazines. The one I have have selected shows a montage of images who feature within the magazine. I would like my contents page to contain certain aspects of this example: Images of the main star and give an over view of what will feature in the magazine.

Initial Idea
For my Media Studies coursework I have decided to create a music magazine. My initial idea for the genre is indie pop. The colour themes, layout and font I would like to be vintage and neutral.
I have searched the internet for retro music magazines. Metro Pop has simular codes and conventions that I am looking for. The vintage indie theme will run throughout the magazine. For my coursework I will produce a front cover, contents page and a double page spread. The artist shown on the front cover of the magazine will have a double page article in an interview format. The contents page will also feature this artist along side other conventions that the audience will expect to read in the music magazine.
